The air-con selection is the most hectic and headache one. Are we perfectionist or what? We just want the best of the best, at reasonable price. The war is between Mitsubishi Electric and Fujitsu. Both are reputable for their invertor air-cons, with 4 ticks for energy efficiency rating.
The winner is: Starmex multi split (invertor) system 3
-easy clean
-clean it yourself
conclusion: it's easy to clean! and it's not cheap.

We are in the midst of doing up our apartment as well and was hoping if you could also give us some indication on the costs of the air-con?

We bought our air-con from Best Denki, costing us about $3k+. It is quite expensive compare to some other places but we wanted the extended warranty. Invertors cost at least $1k more than non-invertors.
Do check how you want to run the aircon pipe personally & if they charge extra for pipes exceeding certain length. Hope it helps. Good luck! :)
